The pose model needs landmarks
CaliCam reads body landmarks from the camera on your phone: shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. Each landmark has a confidence value. When the camera loses the landmarks a movement needs, the counter waits for a usable view instead of guessing.
A movement that the camera could not follow through its required phases does not count. Before, during and after a set, the current app explains what it could not see or why a rep or hold second was not counted.
Things that lower confidence
Most of them are about the frame, not about you.
- Landmarks needed for the movement out of frame, such as the hands overhead in a jumping jack.
- Strong backlight, a window behind you, or a dark room.
- Loose clothing that hides the joints.
- A phone so close that the movement leaves the picture at the bottom of the rep.
- Another person moving through the frame.
What the setup stage checks
Before a set starts, the viewfinder shows which parts of the movement the camera needs to see and how to fix the framing. When the required body landmarks are visible and steady, the countdown starts. Keep the phone stable and stay within the usable view during the set.
Angles
The guide for each movement shows the camera angle that reads it best. Supported angles and framing vary by movement. Follow the setup guidance in the app before relying on a count from a different angle.
